All Hallows Eve

Trick Or Treat

Trick or Treat!!! Trick or Treat!!! Yes ladies and gentlemen we are in the month of October. For many countries around the world, this month marks a certain holiday. This holiday is known as... Halloween.
So what exactly is Halloween about??? Well the way  it is seen nowadays is you dress up as some mythical creature or just as something you probably dreamed of being etc etc, go out and knock on strangers doors asking them for candy. Sounds weird doesn't it??? Well if you find it strange then guess what? You and I think alike... at least in this instance. Anywho moving on, as I said this is basically what the holiday is seen as these days. The question then that remains is this... How did Halloween originate??

The Origins

The word Halloween is derived from the term "All Hallows Eve" (as is the topic of this post) which occurred on Oct. 31, the end of summer in Northwestern Europe. "All Saints Day," or "All Hallows Day" was the next Day, Nov. 1st. Therefore, Halloween is the eve of All Saints Day.

Apparently, the origins of Halloween can be traced back to ancient Ireland and Scotland around the time of Christ. On Oct. 31st, the Celts celebrated the end of summer. This was important because it was when animal herders would move their animals into barns and pens and prepare to ride out the winter. This was also the time of the crop harvests. This annual change of season and lifestyle was marked by a festival called Samhain -- pronounced 'sow-ane' and means 'end of summer.' Sow rhymes with cow.

There was much superstition associated with this time of change including the belief in fairies, and that the spirits of the dead wandered around looking for bodies to inhabit. Since the living did not want to be possessed by spirits, they dressed up in costumes and paraded around the streets making loud noises to confuse and frighten the spirits away. In addition, the new year began for the Celts on Nov. 1. So, the day of Samhain was believed to be a day that was in neither the year past or the year to come. Since it was in between, chaos ruled on that day. Often, people would pull practical jokes on others as a result. (Source)

My Thoughts

Apart from what it is you just read above (and from the page you would have happened upon had you clicked the source link) there is not much really I can add to it. However being the me that I am I find it imperative that I do. Ask me why, I do not know. Either way here's what I think. Of course we have already deduced that Halloween although it is celebrated all in good fun, has some origins derived from the religious and occult world. We see where the whole putting on of costumes every year serves as a way to "Protect us" from the spirits residing in the spirit world who, in most cases apparently wish to gain a foothold in the world of the living. Don't believe in the spirit world??? Well I'm sorry to say (not really) but you're stupid not to. Demons, Spirits, Ghouls, Ghosts... they're all the same. As you should already know every story no matter how far-fetched is and was at some point originally told with some bit of truth in it. Now im not saying that, Yes If you dress up you will be protected spiritually but I am saying that it was believed to be so in the olden times.

While on the topic of spirituality, you have to take into consideration the bible and the whole topic of Religion. As in, how should someone react to this holiday if they are shrouded in the mist of their belief? As we have already concluded, Halloween is deeply rooted in the occult, and religions more often than not seek to remove you from such ties and bring you to a higher plane of existence. So in essence: Should a Christian (or anyone from any other Denomination) partake in the celebration of the Holiday in question???? (You can answer this in the comment section below)

Closing

I could have probably done some more research into this but frankly its not that big of a deal to me seeing that I don't in the true sense of the word, Celebrate Halloween. However if you are anything like me then you know what the best way to spend the holiday is...... Did I hear you say Horror Movies???? That's correct, that's the only way to spend your day. Watching your favourite Halloween movies. To be honest thats the only time you get some of the really good ones on television. Apart from that, as with any other thing you see in place while growing up... don't just take it and run with it. Look into its background see where its coming from and try to guesstimate for yourself where its all heading. Just because you see everyone doing it doesnt mean you HAVE to go along with the crowd. I guess thats all I have to say really so... Later and Happy Halloween!!! >:)

Here's a video by one of my favourite YouTubers. Watch it and then check out the rest of his uploads. Have fun now ;)
